Story
Hello friends!
The past few years our lives have been impacted in some way by cancer.
Kate and Tash have always talked about doing something to give back to Flinders Lodge, Cancer Council SA and to raise awareness for Melanoma Institute Australia. Kate's family could not have coped without Flinders Lodge and the support of the cancer council during the last couple of very hard years and we would like to see much more done for melanoma research because this cruel disease took our loved husband, father and pa.
We have decided to shave our heads to raise money for our charities; we will also hold a family day for the community of Port Pirie to raise awareness on September 3rd.
Rural People with cancer need facilities like Flinders Lodge in Adelaide. They support Cancer Council SA patients not only with affordable accommodation but also with social workers and transport. This support is not just for the unwell it’s also for the families involved. Everyone who stays at Flinders Lodge is going through their own journeys. Together they offer each other amazing support.
Everyone at some point will be affected in some way by this terrible illness, and could benefit from such services as Flinders Lodge. Together we could help ensure that places like Flinders Lodge are always available.
Melanoma is often referred to as "Australia's National Cancer. Our Nation has the highest incidence of Melanoma in the world.
Melanoma is the third most common cancer amongst men (after prostate and bowel) and amongst women (after Breast and Bowel). In Australia Melanoma counted for 10% of all cancers in 2011.
Between 1986 - 2006 melanoma rates had doubled. Imagine what Australia's rates will be in another 10 years with the UV radiation that's coming off the sun. In today's sun it only takes 11 minutes to burn.
With early detection Melanoma can be treated. This is why it’s so sad that more than 11,500 cases of Melanoma are diagnosed in Australia each year. Even though Melanoma only accounts for 2% of all skin cancers. It is the responsible for 75% of all skin cancer deaths. More people die between the ages of 20-34 of Melanoma than any other cancer. Such an aggressive illness we can help prevent by early detection and being sun smart.
Today, you can help by supporting Kate and Tash. Thank you

Did you know that Melanoma kills more young Australians (20-34 year olds) than any other single cancer?
Melanoma Institute Australia is a non-profit organisation hugely reliant upon community funding and support. Without individual donors they would not be able to continue the groundbreaking research, high standard of treatment, and life saving education that they offer.
Any donation that you can make to my fundraising page is hugely appreciated.
